Weekend Round-Up | Norton Woodseats Cricket Club

It was another action-packed weekend for Norton Woodseats Cricket Club, with all three senior sides and the Wildcats in action. There were impressive individual performances, outstanding bowling displays and another memorable Wildcats victory, making for plenty of positives across the club.

1st XI | Thorpe Hesley & High Green CC won by 2 wickets

The 1st XI were edged out in a thrilling contest that went right down to the final stages.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Woodseats posted a competitive 223 all out in 46 overs. Blake Stocks led the way with a superb 66 from 62 balls, striking 10 fours and 3 sixes in an aggressive innings at the top of the order. He was well supported by Hamzah Shah (42), who once again played the anchor role superbly, providing stability through the middle overs and creating the platform for the more aggressive stroke-makers to accelerate. Valuable late contributions from Ronald Richards-Caines (29) and Rahimullah Hussin Khil (31 from just 12 balls) gave the innings a strong finish.

Defending 223, the bowlers battled brilliantly throughout. Rahimullah Hussin Khil produced a superb 5/52 from 13.3 overs, repeatedly dragging Woodseats back into the contest, while James Speck claimed 2 wickets. Despite a determined effort, an unbeaten 120 from Keagan Thiele guided the visitors over the line with just two wickets to spare.

Although the result went against Woodseats, it was another spirited display that showed the fight and character within the side.

2nd XI | Norton Woodseats won by 88 runs

The 2nd XI produced one of their most complete performances of the season with an emphatic 88-run victory over Brookhouse CC.

Batting first, Woodseats scored 178/6 from 40 overs, thanks to a magnificent 83 from 68 balls by Nandha Kumar Krishnamoorthy, who struck 10 fours and 3 sixes. He was well supported by Kevin Loughlin (30) as the pair laid the foundations for a competitive total.

The bowlers then took control of the match. Jhangir Ahmed claimed another outstanding five-wicket haul (5/33), while Wajih Naqvi bowled with exceptional control, returning 2/35 from his 10 overs. Harry Edwards completed an excellent all-round performance, scoring 16 before taking 2/7 from 4.4 overs as Brookhouse were dismissed for just 90.

It was a dominant all-round team performance, with contributions across the side securing a deserved victory.

Wildcats | Victory over Hollinsend Hollies

The Wildcats continued their excellent progress with a brilliant 34-run victory over a strong Hollinsend side.

Posting 101/3 from 16 overs, the Wildcats then produced an outstanding display in the field to restrict Hollinsend to 92/8, taking an incredible nine wickets in the process.

Every player played their part with bat, ball and in the field, highlighting the continued growth of the squad throughout the season.

A special congratulations goes to Sarah, who was deservedly named Player of the Match after stepping in behind the stumps and producing an excellent performance as wicketkeeper.

More importantly, the Wildcats continue to grow not only as cricketers but as teammates and friends, with their commitment, enjoyment and teamwork shining through every week.

A weekend that showcased exactly what Norton Woodseats Cricket Club is aboutcompetitive cricket, teamwork, resilience and players stepping up across every team. While not every result went our way, there were plenty of performances to celebrate and plenty to build on as the season enters its final stages.
