Some weekends remind you why cricket is the ultimate team game. Different players stepping up at different moments, each making their own contribution to the result.

For the 2nd XI, this weekend belonged to Noman Iqbal.

A huge congratulations on a magnificent 105, his maiden century for Norton Woodseats and the first ever for the club at Matthews Lane. Noman batted with confidence, composure and intent, hitting 15 fours and 3 sixes in an innings everyone at the club will remember.

A special mention also goes to captain Will Sammons, whose composed 83 set up the perfect foundation. It wasn’t the fastest innings, but it was just what the team needed: steady leadership, patience, and a platform for others to build on. Late fireworks from Tajawol Arman (16 from just 6 balls) lifted the total to an impressive 237/6.

With the ball, Jhangir Ahmed continues to quietly put together an outstanding season. His 3 wickets this weekend take him to 17 wickets for the season, averaging just 11.65 with an economy of 3.45. Those are exceptional numbers and a reflection of his consistency week after week. He was well supported by Abbas Shah (3 wickets), Rahimullah Hussin Khil (2), and Tajawol Arman and Eddie O’Neill with one apiece, as Sheffield Centralians were dismissed for 115, sealing a convincing 122-run victory.

For the 1st XI, the win was built differently.

Winning the toss and bowling first, the team produced a disciplined display to dismiss Barnsley Woolley Miners for 168. Aamir Ashfaque led the attack superbly with 4 wickets, while David Armitage claimed 3 and James Speck picked up 2, ensuring the visitors never gained complete control.

Chasing 169 was never straightforward. At 35/3, the game was finely balanced and could easily have gone either way.

That’s when experience stepped in.

Ronald Richards-Caines (56) and David Armitage (56) put together a match-winning partnership, showing patience, composure and trust in each other. Their stand steadied the innings before Blake Stocks and Hamzah Shah calmly guided the team home.

A special mention to David Armitage, who enjoyed one of those rare all-round days every cricketer dreams of. He took 3 wickets and then scored a composed 56 to help secure the win.

Whether it was Noman’s landmark century, Will’s captain’s knock, Jhangir’s relentless consistency, Aamir’s spell with the ball, or the experience of Ronald and David under pressure, this weekend showed exactly what makes a successful club.

No one wins games alone. Different players, different moments, one team.

That’s what team cricket is all about
