Cricket has a funny way of keeping you grounded.

One week, you bounce back in style. Another, you’re left scratching your head. Some days you walk away full of confidence, others with lessons to quietly unpack over a cup of tea. That’s the beauty and frustration of the game.

1st XI – Character in the Bounce Back

After the disappointment of the previous week, the 1st XI responded exactly as good teams should. Against Wakefield Thornes CC, the message was simple: reset and go again. Winning the toss and choosing to field, the bowlers took control from the start, dismissing the opposition for just 90 all out in 41.1 overs. A special mention to Blake Stocks and Wajih Naqvi, who set the tone beautifully. Blake’s 3 wickets from 15 overs were another example of patience, control, and leadership from the front, while Wajih’s 3 wickets brought pressure and discipline from the other end.

When your bowlers do that, the chase should be straightforward, and it was. The 1st XI knocked the target off in just 19.3 overs, finishing on 91/2.

Because sometimes setbacks come your way. What matters is how you respond.

2nd XI – A Tale of Two Weekends

Last week at home against Wickersley Old Village, there was plenty to smile about.

And then came Sheffield Transport.

A ground many of us actually enjoy visiting because of its cricketing history and character. On a warm day, though, it becomes a real challenge. As one funny sledge from the sidelines put it: “Almost Australian conditions”… well, maybe just the weather.

Chasing 115, it felt like one of those afternoons where the batting order collapsed like a pack of cards falling from a shuffler’s hand. A bright spark came through Raza Shah’s 38, but ultimately we were bowled out for 104. That made the disappointment even greater because with the ball, we had given ourselves every chance.

A special mention to Rahimullah Hussin Khil, whose outstanding 5 wickets for 14 runs from 9 overs was the kind of spell that wins matches on most days.

But cricket humbles quickly. Some games leave you with plenty to discuss afterwards.

And as they say… sometimes, "less said the better".

Wildcats – Progress, Pride, and Perspective

The Wildcats continue to show why this journey matters. Against Coal Aston, the scoreboard read:

NWCC Wildcats – 243/4
Coal Aston – 302/5

But scorelines never tell the full story. The team worked tirelessly in the field, cutting off boundaries, staying disciplined, and competing right until the end. Sometimes you simply come up against very strong opposition, and credit where it’s due, they had a batting pair that was difficult to stop.

But these are the games that shape teams. The games where you learn. Adapt. Grow.

Huge congratulations to Anita Dell, named Player of the Match for a brilliant contribution with both bat and gloves behind the stumps. And a special mention to Sam, whose two excellent caught-and-bowled efforts showed real class, continuing what has already been an impressive run, including her well-deserved appearance on the league honours board.

Cricket teaches you plenty. How to bounce back. How to stay humble. How to win well. And how to lose, learn, and go again.

Because in the end, it’s never just about the score.
